Embodiment - Encounter - Epiphany
Our Story
Founded in March 2013, RIG-T-ART is an experimental theatre collective currently based in the Washington metropolitan area, committed to exploring performance as a space where the body becomes both a site of memory and a field of resistance, and language is tested and continually reconfigured.
Emerging from contexts shaped, directly or indirectly, by censorship, political pressure, and enforced silence, the collective’s work confronts erasure by reactivating what has been suppressed through Embodiment, Encounter, and Epiphany unfolding in performance.
Working across Iran, the UAE, Canada, and the United States, RIG-T-ART moves between contexts, carrying traces from one into another. Its work does not settle within a fixed diasporic condition but takes shape in an ongoing dialogue between origin and displacement, where each informs and unsettles the other. Languages, geographies, and performance traditions meet and shift, forming spaces in which personal and political histories intersect, and where absence remains active, shaping what appears.
Rather than constructing fixed narratives, RIG-T-ART works through performative situations in which meaning emerges in and through the body. Language is put under pressure, fractures, and transforms, allowing what has been silenced to return in altered, often unexpected forms. Through performance, improvisation, and research-based practice, the work continues to unfold as an inquiry into theatre, not as representation but as an event of presence, resistance, and transformation.
